Treating Hives

Treating Hives with Prescription Drugs Could be Harmful
It is true that prescription medications such as antihistamines and cortisone could be used very effectively against an outbreak of hives, but the problem is that at the same time they also cause serious side effects. Antihistamines make you drowsy, and cortisone can cause a wide range of body-damaging reactions. Cortisone is particularly damaging if you have chronic hives (episodes that last more than 6 weeks) and need to take the drug on a regular basis.

Treating Hives with Hydrotherapy – Instant Relief
While this therapy does not cure the problem it brings immediate relief and helps you to manage the problem better.

We know that hives are usually caused by an allergic reaction in the body and the body then releases the chemical called histamine, which causes hives. When you take a very warm shower (as warm as you can tolerate without it being painful) it also triggers the release of histamine. So what then happens is once all the histamine has been released, the itching will stop, and it will take several hours for the body to make more histamine, which then means no more hives!

You should take this shower for 10-15 minutes as many times as is necessary.

It has also been proven that when you take a hot bath and add oatmeal (1-2 cups) to the water it will help to stop the itching.

Treating Hives with Diet, Herbs Vitamins and Minerals

Diet: Identify and eliminate foods causing allergic reactions. Remember that the most common culprits are berries, fish, soy, beef, citrus, and peanuts.

Herbs and Vitamins: Below is some guidelines which you can follow under the supervision of a medical professional:

  • Take Pancreatic enzymes (4 times daily on empty stomach during initial attack)
  • Take Quercetin it inhibits both the manufacture and release of histamine and other allergic inflammatory reactions in the body
  • Take Bromelain (an enzyme extracted from pineapple) between meals
  • Take Vitamin C taken between meals (3-4 times per day). Vitamin C prevents the secretion of histamine by white blood cells and increases the breakdown of histamine
  • Take Vitamin B complex (2-4 times daily with lots of water, then reduce to 2 times daily within 2-3 days)
  • Take 2 bicarbonate tablets (such as Alka Seltzer Gold) in water every 15 minutes for 1-2 hours during an outbreak can also be very helpful
